No fuss veggie burgers!

Not too often, but sometimes, I end up in situations where there seemingly is nothing to eat. And I’m hungry. Currently, I’m at my grandparents, who are hunters (there’s an abundance of moose and other game here, like wild boar etc), and who live in the middle of the woods, where the closest grocery store carries about 10 products (not true, but you’re not gonna find any tofu there, not even soy milk – strange to me as it lasts for way longer than dairy milk). I went up here on a whim and consequently only brought some home made cinnamon buns. And I’m not one to live off 5 cinnamon buns for 3 days.

So what do you do when what’s on (vegan) hand is some salad, canned beans, rice, and macaroni, AND there’s no fancy kitchen equipment to magically transform different ingredients? You sit through the first night chewing raw veggies and fall asleep hungry. The second night, you’ve had enough and make no-fuss kidney bean burgers, and quite delicious ones too. Here’s how it’s done:

Grab a pestle, and put 1/2 cup rolled oats in there. Grind it into a rough flour.

In a bowl, place 1 can of rinsed kidney beans, and mash them with a potato masher. Then add the oat flour and:
1 finely chopped small onion
1 finely chopped big clove of garlic
2 inches of finely chopped leek
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
some BBQ oil
some lemon hot sauce
1 tsp strong mustard
salt, pepper
1/3 finely chopped bell pepper

Stir to combine, and then fry about 8 little patties in olive oil.

Serve any way you wish and enjoy 🙂
